Today was another productive day for the UCC Lewa Team. We enjoyed another early morning wake-up but luckily had some free time before our departure. The hot day caught us unprepared after a cold night in our Kenyan camp. As the main group departed for our new destination at the Lepurua Primary School, Mr. Denstedt proceeded to Ntugi Primary School to work on the playset.
As we made our way through the conservancy, we soon realized the heat from within the car. The one hour trip to the school was suprisingly bumpy, athough many of the students were still able to sleep, particularly David and Jonathan.
Once we arrived, the heat struck us quickly as we had been informed it would. After an eventful day of teaching Scratch and another amazingly tasty sandwich lunch we were all ready to embrace the weekend. Even though the students’ skill with Scratch had been embellished, as with previous days, the students’ impressed us with how quickly they were able to learn the skills we were teaching them. After a bunch of photos with our new friends at the school, the trucks departed, one for Mr. Denstedt at Ntugi and the rest for our main camp.
Our return to camp was marked
by the very imminent screams of Jonathan and Thomas in the cold shower and another afternoon of card games and laughter. The end
of another great day on the Kenyan savannah. -- Justin Po
