March {17-18}

The weekend finally arrived and we were ecstatic and eager to embrace the break. Saturday, we visited the Il Ngwesi Cultural Boma which showcased the cultures, traditions and lifestyles of the Masai People. They showed us their ways of hunting ie. bow and arrow and using traps as well their welcoming dances and traditional games. It was an absolute shocker to see one of their primitive huts equipped with modern flushing toilets, an amenity not even available at our own camp. At the end of the tour, we were shown to the Masai giftshop, where beads bracelets and necklaces were showcased.
 Once we returned to camp, we enjoyed our time relaxing and playing cards. Sunday, we enjoyed a more productive day where part of th group travelled with Nixon our camp manager to Meru to experience town life within Kenya. We visited several nakumarts (malls) where many of us stocked up on essentials (ie. chips, pop and instant noodles). After visiting several local markets for fresh fruits and vegetables we searched for several hardware stres for building equipment. During one of our stops, we were approached by a persistent tout trying to sell us goods, but he was quickly driven away by the brave and noble Mr. Woodruff.

Back at camp, Winker, Jonathan and Andrew enjoyed a relaxing day reading books and playing cards.

In essence, the weekend gave us a much needed break and allowed us the oppurtunity to replenish our junk food supplies. --- winker and justin
