UCC prepares for its 6th trip to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Upper Canada College is planning its 6th trip to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in March 2012.

The 2012 UCC/Lewa trip is guided by a number of fundamental values and working principles; specifically: creativity, imagination, collaboration and innovation.  This is not a trip for idle individuals, but is rather about students working together as a team and making long-lasting positive contributions to each other and their colleagues in northern Kenya.  As members of one of the most venerable programs at UCC, this trip aims to improve upon the conservation and educational goals of Lewa and the efforts of over 40 UCC students who traveled to Lewa before them.

UCC’s relationship with Lewa dates back over six years when students first traveled to Lewa in 2006 and 2007, funding 2 new classrooms and helping build the foundations.  In 2009, 2010 and 2011, UCC traveled to Lewa after raising enough money to help construct a new school library, install property fencing, develop a solar panel energy infrastructure, and provide One Laptop Per Child computers and wireless internet access to rural secondary schools supported by Lewa.  We are happy to report that interest in this trip remains strong and we continue to attract great candidates.

The 2012 UCC/Lewa trip is focused on three objectives: (i) OLPC Computer Literacy;
(ii) Canadian Playset; and (iii) Conservation Collaboration.
